So while we work hard on planning the next Triangle, here’s a few new tracks to listen to.
Jacques Greene – Another Girl
Available now on 12″ through the Glaswegian guys at LuckyMe who brought you Hudson Mowhawke, Mike Slott etc. Canadian producer Jacques Greene has made a stunning tune, swarming synths, harder buriel-esque housey beat and hypnotically high ended awesome vocal loops. Check it, the first track of the promo from LucyMe below:
Remixes of the B Side “Hole On” come from amongst others, Braiden, who for those of you who remember played Triangle way back when we lived underground at Concrete.
Ahead of his AV set this coming Friday at the Big Chill House, we caught up with DK for a quick chat.
Solid Steels’ been in existence now since 1988! How did you come to be involved?
I started working at Ninja Tune in the mid 90’s and would frequently play my mixtapes in the office. Matt Black from Coldcut heard one of my mixes and invited me to do one for Solid Steel, which at the time was on Kiss FM. I went onto produce the show and also present when Coldcut were away while it was on BBC London.
In your opinion, what’s it about Solid Steel that’s kept it going strong for 25 years?
The show has always embraced new and different styles of music, which keeps it fresh and interesting, but we also like to delve into music’s rich past. If you stick with one style of music, you risk losing listeners as tastes evolve.
We’re mad excited about your AV set, but you usually team up with DJ Food. How do you manage with only the 2 hands, I’m assuming you have to work twice as hard and stay incredibly sober?
We’ve always done individual DJ sets, which is good for testing out new tracks and we would come together for AV sets. It does mean more work, so I don’t start drinking until the second half of the set.
Fucking incredible job on the ‘Cymatic Frequencies‘ A/V mix! Over 18,000 views on Vimeo (it deserves more). Was that all done using Serato Video SL or Final Cut, or something else? When can we expect to see another?
Thanks very much, it took quite a few late nights to finish……. I used Final Cut for the final mix, but I used Serato Video SL while working on the mix and when I do my AV sets. I wanted to do a less club orientated version of the mix as well, ‘Cymatic Frequencies Dub mix’ or Directors Cut, but we’ll see. There will definitely be more AV mixes as some stage.
If you could pick a personal stand out track from each of these decades 60’s, 70’s, 80’s 90’s and a track within the last year what would it be?
ou know this is a very hard thing to do, there’s just so much music out there, but here are some tracks that stick out in my mind;
60’s – David Axelrod – Holy Thursday – Pretty much any Axelrod production would do, but this is one of his best
70’s – Cozy Powell – Dance with the devil – The first record I ever bought and started my love of drum break
80’s – Malcolm Mclaren – Buffalo Gals – His album Duck Rock set my musical agenda at the time with tastes of Hip Hop, World music, Funk, Soul, not to mention break dancing.
90’s – DJ Zinc – Super Sharp Shooter – Such a genre defining track and still works today
Recent – Joy Orbison – Hyph Mngo – It’s over a year old now, but the first track in my AV mix is still a big my favourite of mine.
What can we expect from your set at the Big Chill House?
I’ll be performing ‘Cymatic Frequencies’ as part of the set and then I’ll see where it goes. Just plenty of good music and great visuals to entertain your eyes as well as your ears.
Audio Visual Extraordinaire, Ninjatune regular, Solidsteel Main Man, Music Maker and DJ, DK (aka Darren Knott) will be heading up the Big Chill House soundsystem Friday 18th March! We are mad excited about this, and so should you!

Like previous Triangle parties. His style is an eclectic mix of House to Hip Hop, breaks and beyond, avoiding a night of just one style and leaving plenty of room for both the latest tunes and classic rarities. Expect a memorable set, coupled with awesome projected video trickery.
Scrub out whatever was in your diaries before and get down to Kings Cross.
Bristol just keeps them coming! As well as Joker, Pinch, Peverelist etc etc etc, West Country’s relative newcomer Kahn (On Peverelist’s Label Punch Drunk) serves us a chopped up, jittery-bum-flex-bastard of a tune called ‘Like We Used To’.
Also Bristol raised and with an already solid foundation (listen to ‘Phoenix‘) Hyetal comes with another one. This time on Black Acre, the label behind his upcoming album ‘Broadcast’ on 2nd May. ‘Diamond Eyes’ features vocals from Alison Garner and is very nice indeed.
Ok, well officially it’s not Caribou. It’s Daphni, a new alias for a slightly different sound, a more accessible, up front dance floor banger from Dan Snaith. A refreshing direction, a bit eery, synths that crawl up and some guy saying Ye Ye, hence the name of the track. Check this link below taken from Snaith’s Soundcloud [via Pitchfork].
On the flip side, it’s Four Tet with Pinnacles, steering toward a more techy, house sound. Shit quality rip from Gilles Petersons show, it can only sound 70 x better in da club.
Kieran is set to release this on his own label Text Records, it will no doubt be cleared from the shelves as fast as the split 12″ he released with Burial. Hot Cakes!
After a small Hiatus, we’re back and this is what we’ve been listening to/watching and generally getting chuffed over. More news to follow soon…
UK Bass purveyors Dark Sky drop this mighty remix of Ben Westbeech’s new track “Falling”. A slight nod to Jamie XXs vocal mangling, this track keeps things not too distant from the original but adds synths and some super deep sub quakes. (Check out his take on Kelis’s “Take“)
The first out the gates to put their spin on the new Radiohead tracks from “The King of Limbs” is the Gotenburg based Mojib. You may remember him from his equally imidiate reworking of “Videotape” hours after its release from In Rainbows.
Along with the 7,897 other blogs bigging this up. We’re totally going spaz over it too. Jamie XX‘s remix of Gil Scott-Heron’s “NY is Killing Me”. You can stream the full album on the Guardian site, but to get a physical copy you’ve got until 21st Feb. Also, check out this article on XL Records and its founder Richard Russell, a record label talking sense!
She’s been popping up on the “scene” quite a bit recently, notably alongside Oneman on Platform/Boiler room last year. But this track “Nervous” from Jessie Ware is impossible to get get tired of, despite it being around since September! SBTRKT handles the production with insane stupid drum programming madness. …and if you haven’t already heard the loved up collaboration between her and Sampha “Valentine” (Released last week, Feb 14th! on Young Turks), check it out below. And the 12″is equally as romantic if a little bit similar to Mayer Hawthorne’s “Just Aint Gunna Work Out”. XOXOXO
Whilst we were away, Sepalcure came with their 2nd EP “Fleur”. Stand out, has got to be the title track. Get onto iTunes and support Sepalcure & Hotflush
Also, keep a sharp eye out for the next Hotflush 2CD compilation coming out of the 4th April, featuring tracks from FatyDL, Untold, Joy Orbison and Pangaea.

Hot off the back of our triumphant New Year’s Eve-Eve party, TRIANGLE returns once again to the Big Chill House on Friday 18th March. Residents La Greve Generale will be spinning their usual blend of electro, hip-hop & new disco, along with some very special guests. Keep an eye out as we announce more DJ’s in the next couple of weeks….
A massive thanks to everyone who came down on New Years Eve Eve. Surprised to see that many people out the night before main night out night, strong work!
Apologies to those who were expecting Mat Payne, transport fucked up but LGG managed to maintain the party for the whole night long.
